Up-Cycling Old Smartphone Batteries
Mining for lithium, primarily used to make batteries, is harming our environment. As people change their smartphones quite often, tons of used batteries, still in good condition, end up in the trash or are stowed away. Enlighten, a start-up from South Korea, have come up with a wonderful product named ‘Better RE’ to tackle this problem.
Better RE is a portable Smarphone charging solution, developed to quench the thirst of mobile devices and make use of old batteries with remaining useful life. It is designed to rethink and reuse our sleeping energy for a better world. Users simply remove batteries from their old smartphones, place it inside the power pack, and use it to recharge any device that uses a USB cable, mostly phones, digital cameras and smart watches. The pack is a versatile solution that can house batteries of a wide range of shapes, sizes and brands. It comes with dual protection circuits which protects the user from over-charge and over-discharge.
Discarded batteries pose a huge threat to the environment. Someday we might have a solution to this problem. Till then, what are other ways we can maximize utilization of batteries so it does not end up prematurely in the landfills?
