Helping Displaced Families Crowdfund New Homes
Previously, we had highlighted the IKEA Foundation and Extremis Technology that deals with transitional shelters for disaster struck areas. Focusing on permanent settlement of displaced families, New Story Charity, a crowdfunding platform, is out to help displaced families raise funds to build new homes.
Their innovative model follows a four step process:
1. Screen Families
They have partnered with local non-profits to screen and pick out families experiencing life-threatening homelessness.
2. Raise Funds
Donors can then connect with families and raise funds to help build their new home.
3. Build Homes
They have partnered with local contractors to build safe homes with help from the family.
4. Post Videos
After completion of the home, they show donors the ‘new story’ they helped create.
What also makes their model stand out is that 100% of the funds raised goes directly to the families. Their operating costs are covered by sponsors and they are even able to reimburse the credit card fees charged for online donations. A model worth giving some serious thought, wouldn’t you agree?
