Harvesting Water from the Sky
Scarcity of water is a common problem in our neck of the woods. At current rates, if everyone on Earth used resources like the Western world (US, EU, etc) environmental experts believe that we would require more than 3 planets worth of resources. SmartPaani, a subsidiary of One Planet Solutions, is set out to solve that problem by providing services in designing water management systems at the household and institutional levels.
Rainwater Harvesting is the collection and utilization of the rain that falls on rooftops and other surfaces for immediate and future use. This is done either by using storage tanks or recharging the rainwater into underground sources such as tube wells. Simple filtration or chlorination can make rainwater fit for drinking. The SmartPaani Team creates custom solutions based on individual household’s needs and situation. Solutions range from tank-based storage for all uses during the rainy season, groundwater recharge for year-round water supply, or tank storage for year-round drinking and cooking uses. As of now, SmartPaani provides these services to customers only within the Kathmandu valley.
Water is a valuable resource and should be used wisely. If it’s falling from the sky, shouldn’t we all be harvesting it?
